Network & Wi-Fi Overhaul for Punters Club — bar, dining and outdoor terrace venue

Punters Club needed a modern, reliable network that could support three distinct user groups — POS and critical systems, staff, and guests — across a busy hospitality environment.
The existing setup consisted of legacy hardware and unmanaged cabling, which made it difficult to maintain and offered no clear network separation between payment systems, internal use, and public Wi-Fi. The venue also had a fibre upgrade scheduled, requiring a secure, scalable design that could transition smoothly once the new service went live.

THAT MAC CHAP delivered a full network upgrade comprising hardware installation, network segmentation, Wi-Fi redesign, and future-proofing for fibre and 5G failover.

Key elements included:

  • Installation of a business-grade firewall/router configured for the upcoming fibre connection and optional 5G backup.

  • Two managed PoE+ switches powering and connecting all wired infrastructure.

  • Four Wi-Fi 6 access points positioned and mounted across bar, dining, office and terrace zones for complete coverage.

  • Network segmentation into three secured environments:

    • POS & Critical Systems – unrestricted, high-priority traffic for payment terminals and essential systems.

    • Staff Network – dedicated internal network with upload shaping to preserve bandwidth for operational use.

    • Guest Wi-Fi – isolated public network with captive portal directing patrons to the Punters Club website; access limited to trading hours with controlled download and upload rates.

  • Guest Wi-Fi portal configured with venue branding to enhance customer experience and engagement.

  • Full rack tidy-up, cable tracing, labelling, and removal of legacy cabling for a clean, professional finish.

  • Off-site configuration completed prior to installation to minimise disruption and allow rapid on-site deployment.

POS and payment systems now operate in an isolated, high-priority environment ensuring reliable transactions even during peak service.

Staff and guest devices are completely segregated, improving network performance and data security.

Patrons enjoy a smooth, branded guest Wi-Fi experience that promotes venue events while maintaining controlled bandwidth use.

The system is fibre-ready and capable of automatic 5G failover should the main internet connection drop.

The rack is neatly organised and labelled for future servicing and diagnostics.

Installation and cut-over completed with zero downtime during trade, thanks to careful planning and after-hours work.

“Joshua and THAT MAC CHAP delivered exactly what we needed — a fast, tidy, future-proof network upgrade with no disruption to service.”
— Matt, Punters Club

State-of-the-Art WIFI & CCTV System for Solace Club — late-night nightclub venue, Solace - MELBOURNE CBD

Solace Club required a modern, enterprise-grade CCTV system that met strict Victorian liquor licensing obligations while delivering clear, reliable evidence-quality footage across a complex, multi-level nightlife venue.

The existing security infrastructure was inconsistent, partially outdated, and lacked comprehensive coverage of critical areas such as entry points, bars, dance floors, cloakroom, and back-of-house spaces. Storage retention was unclear, camera positioning was suboptimal for identification purposes, and there was no centralised management platform for review and export of footage.

With increasing regulatory expectations from Liquor Control Victoria and Victoria Police, Solace needed a system that was not only technically excellent but demonstrably compliant, auditable, and easy to operate for management and security staff.

THAT MAC CHAP delivered a complete CCTV overhaul, from camera selection and placement to recording infrastructure, retention policies, secure access controls, and long-term maintenance planning.

Key elements included:

  • Design and installation of a professional, high-resolution IP CCTV system using enterprise-grade cameras optimised for low-light nightclub conditions.

  • Strategic camera placement to ensure clear facial identification at all entry and exit points, bars, cloakroom, stairs, and key crowd areas, in line with liquor licensing requirements.

  • Deployment of a dedicated Network Video Recorder with redundant storage, configured to retain footage for the mandated period required by regulators.

  • Continuous recording across all cameras, with motion analytics enabled for rapid incident review without compromising evidentiary integrity.

  • Secure, segmented CCTV network isolated from guest Wi-Fi, POS systems, and staff networks to prevent interference or tampering.

  • Remote secure access for management and authorised security personnel, with role-based permissions and full audit logging.

  • Clear labelling of all cameras and cabling, along with structured documentation for compliance inspections.

  • Rack reorganisation to house CCTV infrastructure neatly and safely, with proper ventilation, surge protection, and power management.

  • After-hours installation and testing to avoid disruption to trade.

Outcomes for Solace Club:

  • The venue now operates a fully compliant, state-of-the-art CCTV system that satisfies Liquor Control Victoria and Victoria Police expectations.

  • Camera coverage provides clear, identifiable footage of patrons, staff, and security interactions in all critical areas.

  • Footage can be located, exported, and shared rapidly in the event of incidents or regulatory requests.

  • Management has confidence that recordings are reliable, securely stored, and protected against unauthorised access.

  • The segregated CCTV network improves overall cyber security while ensuring uninterrupted recording.

  • The tidy, labelled installation simplifies future maintenance, upgrades, and audits.

“Joshua and THAT MAC CHAP delivered a premium, compliance-ready CCTV system that gives us real confidence in our security operations and licensing obligations.”

50+ EMPLOYEE CREATIVE AGENCY

London's most hotly anticipated startup opened for business when Damon Collins and Richard Exon, former executive creative director and CEO of RKCR/Y&R, launched Joint London.

Joint needed a robust and super-fast server solution to cope with everything an advertising agency could throw at it. With their in-house production studio, 10 Gbps links between their studio Macs and the file server were necessary.

We implemented a robust WiFi solution throughout the office space, allowing for every device outside the studio (40+) to use wireless as their sole means of connectivity. This was a result of our client’s desire to have truly mobile working in the office - not having anyone’s laptop tethered to a specific desk space. For 3 years Joint’s entire fleet of MacBook Pros have been ethernet cable free, thanks to our lightning-fast high-throughput wireless solution - we’re talking live editing of Pitch Decks and Keynote Presentations over WiFi, sat soft, brew in hand.

Joshua at That Mac Chap has been an invaluable asset to our business whilst we grew and has proven his ability to manage, plan and support our various network and computer systems. I would recommend his services to anyone.

- Neil, Head of Studio at Joint

The server implementation was our largest to date with a 40+ TB capacity after RAID, NVMe SSD caching for video editing and 10 Gbps connectivity. Not to mention a virtualised Windows Server for finance-specific applications and a complete Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity system in the form of an off-site live replication server, with a third historical backup location all satisfying ISO standards when audited by Deloitte.

Outside of the office is covered too, with a live online filing system built so any employee could be on a bus in Nairobi with an iota of data, and have live access to the file server directly from their handheld gadget, or download and edit a Keynote on an iPad whilst 33,000 feet in the air. Users can browse, view, send, download and share files straight from the file server, as if they were in the building, or hijacking a Mac in the Apple Store Tokyo. All of this on top of regular VPN style access. We find their remote needs are more than satisfied.

Corrupted a file? Cocked up a document? Joint can revert to just 2hrs ago with the snapshot technology we’ve built into this system, within minutes. Rather than having to raise a ticket, and then wait for last night’s backup to be retrieved and restored.

These guys were my go to guys with any issues at Joint, they are some of the best IT experts I have worked with, always got the issue sorted quickly and without fuss.

- Trevor, Producer at Joint

We’ve had a great time working alongside Joint, and continue to keep them up and running with a 99% systems uptime to date.

20+ EMPLOYEE MULTI-SITE PHOTOGRAPHIC & PRODUCTION AGENCY

Webber Represents is a bespoke creative agency with offices in London, New York and LA. They represent a select group of exceptional photographers, stylists, set designers and art directors, and are dedicated to maintaining a balance between art and commercial projects.

With clients like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Wall Street Journal, Vanity Fair, Dazed, Vogue, Mulberry, Hermès, Harley Davidson and Chloé to name but a few - Webber Represents rely on their server, email environment and a custom CRM heavily.

A word of mouth recommendation introduced us to Webber back in 2016.

Since assisting Webber with their IT Infrastructure we have developed a solid relationship, ensuring their data is protected, secure and most importantly available live across their London, New York and LA sites - as well as on shoots wherever they may be.

We created a replicated file server solution for their London & New York sites to be able to share files live, across the Atlantic Ocean. This solution has proven to add value to their business making sure both international offices can securely share, store and access files wherever they happen to be working. We have a secure third site set up for this client to house historic off-site backups which satisfies their own, and their client’s DR/BC needs.

Joshua is one of the friendliest and knowledgeable IT Gurus I’ve worked with.

- Jan, Finance Director

We keep all aspects of Webber’s IT in check and in good shape, remotely and whilst on-site.

30+ EMPLOYEE INTERIOR & EXHIBITION DESIGNERS

Casson Mann, the award-winning London design company founded by Dinah Casson and Roger Mann, has made an international name for itself creating exhibition designs including the Hollywood Costume exhibition for the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Since 2017 we managed Casson Mann’s infrastructure and were on call 24/7 as a retained service. We visited their offices regularly and provided remote support and assistance for the 30 staff.

Casson Mann were left slightly neglected by their previous supplier and were suffering with various system issues as a result. During our onboarding we quickly realised their Mac mini server with USB-based storage devices was not an efficient system for a company of their size, processing vast amounts of architectural and imagery data on a daily basis.

We got them up to speed quickly, with an efficiently managed server upgrade project - causing little downtime. Implementing an off-site backup solution, a 30TB file server with SSD caching for their CAD software and a full migration of their failing on-site Macintosh Kerio Email Server to a Cloud system was just our first month. Installation of a new fibre line with a 4G Load Balancing & Failover was the second. With a complete tidy and overhaul of their network rack, with new patch cables and switch reconfiguration in the third.

Casson Mann instantly became more productive with no more server crashes or speed issues, no more email server restarts in the middle of the day and an internet line which could support a remote Paris office working live over a VPN.

I would recommend That Mac Chap as capable and experienced Computer and Network Engineers. Our company has really relied on their ability and services.
